Whenever you do significant building reconstruction of any kind, there eventually comes the time when you need to choose the colours with which walls & things are going to be painted. Even though I’m a fairly visual person I have to confess that my mind just clouds over when I see a paint colour chart.
“What colour do you think for the walls,” asks Violet Towne, “White?”
“Oh sure, white is good,” I say. “Goes with everything and makes the decision-making simple!”
The problem is, the people who make paint don’t see things merely in black & white. There are TEN MILLION different shades of white. And they have a sample for every single one of them.
I scrutinize the contenders to which Violet Towne has narrowed down the choice, but inevitably, this is always how it ends up looking to me:

I like the white one!
I agree with Pil. Though the white one is also very nice.
You know, there are a million different ways to make a snare drum sound, but only one way to see a white house.
Besides, I bet the girl is just offering you a choice to humor you. Or humour you. Depends on the nationality.
no I like the white one better than the one that Pil chose
White?
You surprise me Rev, surely there’s a tint of pirate blood in there somewhere…
Aaargh!

It’s so hard when you have to choose between white and white. Curse you paint-makers! >.<
At least she didn’t go with “red”. I don’t think the walls would look so good as purple.
Pil: Me too!
Cissy Strutt: As I was saying!
Casey: I said to Violet Towne recently that if she’d asked me without looking to say what colour our house is currently painted, I would have guessed a slightly blue white. It is, in fact, a very rich yellow-creamy white. However, the eaves & trim are a darkish grey-blue, so the visual take-away is heavily influenced by that. White is not white, unless it’s white.
Nurse Myra: Yup. Beautiful. Nice & white.
King Willy: I find that when renovating, you can never avoid a small tint of blood in the paint.
Lexie: Hey, thanks for stopping by The Cow! I hope you have some teeth left after all that taffy.
As far as cursing paint-makers – well, it wouldn’t be the first time for me…
Atlas: I’ve chosen a red wall for my studio, and you know what, I bet it will be exactly the colour I want. And that won’t be purple.
A red wall in the studio? But those are full of varmints!
I’m getting all the other walls painted Doomwyte.
If you think white is tough, try to buy some clear (as in colorless) stain. Nearly impossible! They just don’t understand!!!
I’ve changed my mind. I’m going with Cissy.
Catalyst: I can see it now: Champagne Glass; Tranquil Pool; Windscreen; Turpentine; Spring Morning; Crystal Palace; Chandelier! The possibilities are limitless!
Pil: Maybe you’re right.
Get with the times!
White is the new White.

You should go with the glow in the dark paint. It’s white until the lights go out. Then it’s just awesome.
What is this some type of Anti-Obama ad?
