Yesterday, when discussing greenhouse gas emissions targets with the State Premiers, [tippy title=”¹”]It is a curious situation here in Australia, that while the Federal Government is Right Wing Conservative, all the States are under Left Wing Progressive governance. Apparently people think it is a good idea to have their immediate situations managed by thoughtful people, but are happy to have the country as a whole run by idiots. Go figure. [/tippy] The Weasel made the following comment to the press:
“Jobs and economic prosperity is more important than ideology and emissions targets”
Leaving the atrocious grammar aside, this statement goes a long way towards illustrating what a short-sighted dullard this man is.
He really thinks that Global Warming is just a question of ideology! Like whether or not you think Australia should be a Republic; a matter of opinion. Translating the above: John Howard, Prime Minister of Australia, does not believe the conclusions of the entire scientific community that the world is facing a serious, real climate event of catastrophic proportions.[tippy title=”²”]It is blindingly obvious, therefore, that all his recent new-found ‘concern’ for Green issues is not because he thinks they have merit, but because he is, once again, lying in order to get votes. Why are people so stupid that they can’t see this[/tippy]
My God. His stupidity is breathtaking.
Let me tell you something Prime Minister: all the economic prosperity in the world is going to mean diddly squat when there’s no water left and you’re suffocating in a haze of carbon dioxide.
It doesn’t matter how much I hate him, there seems to be room for even more hate. I strongly condemn him and all he stands for.

Welcome to our world.
Oh, I know, I know. Mr Howard and Mr Bush are the best of chums. It’s probably because when they talk in private they don’t have to remember so many big words and they can use terms like ‘filthy hippies’, ‘stupid women’ and ‘towel-heads’ without any of those Politically Correct people jumping on them.
You know, just like it used to be back in the good ol’ days.
It IS curious. Here in th US as well, fer about th last quartr-century or so, th elecktorate has tended to prefr a conservative executive + a (somewhat) progressive legislature.
Ocourse, 2000 then gave us conservative executive AND conservative (read: rubbr stamp) legislature — an look where THATs got us!
I suspect the reason is that when people think ‘locally’ they can actually understand the issues facing them a little better, but when they have to make assessments that involve larger philosophical questions their brains just fall out causing them to vote ‘safe’.
what about his gaffe in the SMH on Friday? now he wants to discriminate against migrants with HIV. course Bush already does that so it must be ok.
Fair point.
More importantly, what have you done to your blog?!?!
I’ll get used to it.
Nice symbols.
Nurse Myra: Basically he wants to discriminate against anyone who isn’t white, middle class, conservative, Christian and dull. He’s fighting a losing battle.
Leon: Heh. You must have tuned in in the split 10 seconds where I had the new artwork loaded…
Still practising.
Now John Winston Howard is stupid. But my stupidity award for climate change sceptics goes to Cardinal George Pell, Archbishop of Sydney, who declared that Jesus did not talk about global warming and then proceeded to give his right wing catholic PR spin on Easter, religion etc.
Desperate and shameless.
Yes, I heard that too. George Pell is definitely up there with the best of the witless. Then again, the Catholic Church has never really had much of a grasp of reality.
Tell your PM to get with the Program- both George Bush and Newt Gingrich have now aknowledged (more or less, in their own ways) Global Warming.
Gingrinch even says it’s a serious problem- but doesn’t believe we need any government action to do anything about it. George, always the optomalistical type, talks about it being a good thing with better weather for crops and biking and stuff. You know that somewhere in the White House there’s a memo circulating that points out that Global Warming will also be good because it’s going to submerge a bunch of poor countries first, which means we save big on foreign aid.
and so it goes…
I look forward to the day that people sit in their McMansions with candlelight, looking at the 300″ Plasma that doesn’t work anymore, while Dad and the Kids take their Bikes to the coast to get water, while Mum cooks up a dried Carrot and some Rabbit for Dinner using wood from the Children’s Playroom.
I don’t understand how Howard cannot see that we are all on a train rushing at 200km/hr towards a Wall and that someone needs to put on the break or too soon it will be too late even if we pull on the break. We will all have to make some sacrifices. Perhaps we might have to go and listen to live music again instead of Mp3’s, Cycle to work, Install Water Tanks, Stay home for the holidays and not fly overseas so often, use the car only when absolutely necessary. These little steps will make a big difference and the world might be a better place
The ironic part is that reducing emissions creates a lot of jobs too. Someone has to design the solutions. Some one has to build them. But the solutions won’t come over night. But they will come.
Colonel: Our PM is with the program. The It Was Better in the 1950s program. You know, when we could chop down trees and dig up coal and keep women barefoot and pregnant and out of the workplace.
hewhohears: Mr Howard is an idiot. He has no love for this country, just a narrow view of it as one big exploitable resource. ‘Future’ is not a word in his lexicon.
Sirdar: Yes, but those jobs require education, and education is in trouble here too. Because you can’t make money out of it overnight.
Casey: After the last election, I have to disagree with you, unfortunately. The people are mostly stupid.
*stares incredulously*
What, and those stupid workplace laws of his weren’t ideology?
I’m one of those people who believe that principally the sun is responsible for global warming, rather than humanity, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to minimise the problem. I mean, hell, I don’t know about th erest of the country, but we Brisbanites have barely any water left! Not to mention, the Murray-Darling Basin’s lack of water… Clearly, some environmental concern would be a good idea. Did you hear that while we’re all on level 5 water restrictions here, Coca Cola is buying our water for a few measly dollars per kilolitre or something? It’s outrageous.
Believe me, if Harry Potter werre real, sending Howard Howlers would be my new hobby…
