“The Plunger”

I was reading recently some opinions voiced by a psychologist that young people today are in desperate need of proper role models to inspire them onwards into their adult lives. I can only concur with this assessment. Everywhere I look I see pint-sized emulations of trashy fashion celebrities, talentless entertainers and shady sports stars. We’re heading into a world where everyone will dress like hookers, sing like… er… hookers and cheat and lie to get ahead because they think that being on top is the only thing that counts.
Where are the true inspirational figureheads for the coming generation?,
For my own part, I attribute the achievement of my upstanding moral character and practical apprehension of the world to one guiding light in my teenage years. From matters of sexuality, through family relationships to issues of Law, this one man was my moral compass and my spiritual guide.
How could any teenage boy fail to be affected by his joi de vivre, his savoir faire, his generosity, his sartorial flair? He had everything any man could want: a good relationship with a beautiful wife, a happy home and family, money, and interesting hobbies. He was a man of the world, and a man who had travelled the world. He was a romantic in the proper sense, adept at fencing, yoga, dancing and knife-throwing and he could indulge in all these passions without dropping his cigar.
I am, of course, talking about this man.
Talking about being guided in matters of sexuality (or at least inspired), Lily Munster (Yvonne de Carlo), died on Monday.
Broadly speaking, I’m thinking we will probably be divided into two camps here; Sorry Pete, Morticia Addams was always my pin-up girl.
Nevertheless, I’m sure we all want to wish Lily Munster a fond RIP.
Funny, I’ve always pictured you more as Fester.
That’s as may be, jedimacfan, but my role model was Gomez. In light of today’s slim pickings though, even Fester looks pretty good.
Morticia Addams – the most beautiful woman in the world, when I was growing up. How lucky I was to have her, and not Paris!
And a woman of true style: “Do you mind if I smoke?” Boy, did she ever smoke.
Literally.
So that’s why you are such a gentleman, Rev. When are you going to grow the dapper moustache?
A model for the ages, that one.
Ahhh. The Adams Family. I always wanted a “Thing” at home, and I was accused by my father of being like Cousin IT with my long hair! Oh how I wish for those days, life was simpler then. Tele only had 2 colours, Black or White, we still had a White Australia Policy……..Wait a minute, not much had really changed then. Old “stuck in the 50’s Howard” is seeing to that.
Personally I also liked Mary-anne on Gilligans Island and Penny in Lost in Space. Mortica Rocked.
Sorry to sound like a toady, but Morticia was top of the list of slightly creepy exotic hot as hell goth TV brunettes for me too. But before puberty you don’t have to be picky, you can have two!
And of course Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie was a biggy. I was nothing if not generous with my affections.
Some of us were a little more discerning in our tastes.
