Eensy Weensy

I found this little* guy yesterday clambering all over our renovations. He (or maybe she) is of the family Nicodamidae, endemic to Australia and Papua New Guinea, and usually found in Eucalyptus forests. He’s making do with sawn pine around our place at the moment.

*Don’t let the photo fool you – he was only about 10mm long from leg tip to leg tip.

Lunesta side effects….
Lunesta. Lunesta cost. Lunesta night sweats. Lunesta dosing info….
Seems a little embarrassed at being photographed slumming it with the pine….
He is beautiful but scary looking. Is he dangerous?
He almost looks like a crab. Take the back end off and presto. Nice looking spider….as far as spiders go that is.
How do you look in tights? You might want to let him bite you…
MMMMMMM, I am hungry now
I do hope you mean 10mm – otherwise you’ve got a truly spectacular spider on your hands!
Commonly known as the “red and black spider” teh interwebs tells me. Amazing!
evenstar: Well it certainly wasn’t sun burn. It’s been grim and rainy here for a week or so.
Pil: No-one seems to know if he’s harmful. The spider identification site that I used to find him said “Toxicity uncertain – treat with caution”. Luckily I hadn’t invited him in to play.
MI: Not a lot of flesh on ‘im, I suspect.
Atlas: I think the way it works is that it doesn’t really matter if you look good in tights before he bites you – it all works out once the spidey toxin has done its job. If that’s not the case, then you won’t be seeing me in the red underpants.
Malach: I’ll post him to you.
JR: Thank goodness I have someone to proofread my blog. Yes, I did mean 10mm and it is corrected. Although we did have spiders well in excess of 100mm up at the Treehouse… (they tended toward the brown and hairy though).
And the name fits nicely with the Australian convention of calling a spade a spade. You got yer Brown Snake, yer Black Snake, yer Grey Kangaroo and yer Red and Black Spider.
she’s really rather pretty with those blushing cheeks
… can’t type … flashing back to spiders the size of puppies …
JR: we’re so used to huge spiders here that I read 100mm without blinking.
Very handsome little creature.
now that’s a good looking spider. We have spiders that make webs along the top of our wall in the bedroom- we love our spiders.
Our cats tend to eat them though.
Btween my right & leff legs is,
My peepee. Aint it great?
Imagine all th fun Id have,
If my leg-count was 8!
