Another contender for The Unusual Thing?

For many years now I’ve been carrying around this postcard in my collection of strange curios. The woman on the front is Madge Crichton, an actress of the early 20th Century, who, on a cursory Google search, seems to have been more famous for her appearance on postcards than much else. There’s another photo of Madge at this page – [Link]

Madge is not the reason I’ve kept the postcard though – this is what’s written on the back:

Dear Eileen,

Mick said he did not mean to frighten you he told me what he had it for.

He wants to go over to Burwood next Saturday night but I cannot go over till Saturday week.

I got a lot to tell you when I see you about Ethel

12/10/08 Mary

Now I don’t know about you, but I really want to know more about Mick, Eileen, Ethel and Mary, and particularly about the frightening thing that Mick had. Speculations welcome…

One year ago today my beautiful wife Kate passed from this place.

…when our laughter ends,
And hearts and bodies, brown as white,
Are dust about the doors of friends,
Or scent ablowing down the night,
Then, oh! then, the wise agree,
Comes our immortality.
~ Rupert Brooke – Tiare Tahiti

Rest in peace sweetheart.

On a whim, I typed “unusual thing” into Google and got this page on a site called Russia Makes It FunnyLink

Women’s panties with alarm appear soon

An unusual thing was invented by Serbian Slavomir Adamovic. Ladies panties with an alarm will appear soon. As it is well-known, sexual abuse against women is rather frequent in offices. The invention will emit loud peeps every time its owner is pinched at her butt.

The inventor hopes, such unexpected sounds will cool sexually concerned men in the office and will make office a safer place, free from sexual terror. Slavomir Adamovic says, the panties peep because of a micro chip embedded into underwear and emits sounds when being pressed, or when areas close to the underwear are pressed.

What can I say? Slavomir, you’re a genius.
